AOP founded at Barnard in 188 when KKG, since 1891 the only fraternity at Barnard refused to pledge Stella Stern ’98, supposedly because she was Jewish and that doing so would violate the fraternity’s national bylaws.
KAT also organized in 1898, to be followed by several more over the next decade.
