PLEASE NOTE: The DBT Training Program is open only to matriculated CSSW students.

Where can I get more information about the DBT Training Program & Lab as well as application process?

You can get more information by reviewing the following webinar and attending an information session:

Who are the DBT Classroom Training Program faculty for 2023-2024?

  • Michael Bodtmann, LCSW
  • Lyndsi Bodtmann, PsyD
  • Andre’ Ivanoff, PhD

Will my decision to enroll online for my first year negatively affect my chances of admission to the residential DBT Training program starting Summer after my first year?

No. However, if you have not experienced life in New York City, the transition might prove difficult.

Can students in the 16-month program apply?

Yes. Keep in mind, however, that the course load would be especially intensive given that the DBT Training program requires students to take two summer courses and a week-long intensive training in August in addition to the summer courses required by the 16-month program.

Can students in the Extended and Reduced Residency programs apply?

During the year of the training program (May of the 1st year through graduation) students are required to be on campus for 2 classes during the  10-week summer session, a full week of intensive training in August and then full-time during the academic year.
Completing these requirements along with the demands of the programs is not impossible, but it is a very heavy  load.

Where do I find information about program requirements?
Please see the DBT Training Program blogsite at:

Yes.  Only matriculated students are eligible to apply.

How many additional credits are required ?

Fifteen.

Will I be required to take summer courses if I am accepted to the DBT training program?

Yes, students participate in online study and on-campus preparatory classes from May through August of their first summer. Additionally, students participate in a full week of DBT Intensive Training provided by Behavioral Tech in August.

Will participation in the DBT Training Program provide me with certification in DBT?

No, certification is provided by the DBT- Linehan Board of Certification, a legally separate 501c6 organization. Upon completion of the CSSW DBT training program students are well prepared to apply and begin work toward certification. Many students are eligible and able to pass the DBT certification examination upon graduation. There is a discounted student application fee, and and during the pandemic crisis, deadlines for completing applications have been waived.
