NYC Health + Hospitals Loan Forgiveness Program for LCSWs

NYC Health + Hospitals - WikipediaAre you a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the NYC metro area?

NYC Health + Hospitals has launched a new student loan forgiveness program for behavioral health providers, offering up to $30,000 of debt relief to LCSWs in exchange for a three-year commitment to serve the public health system.

The program will be available to eligible employees and new hires for the next year or until their $1 million donation has been distributed. Applications are now open. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Virtual Job Fair for Mental Health Service Corps | Thursday, July 23

Mental Health Service Corps (MHSC) is hiring!

MHSC is a workforce development program that aims to build a diverse generation of mental health clinicians, equipped to integrate behavioral health into a variety of settings. Early-career clinicians are trained in evidence-based practices and placed throughout the NYC Health + Hospitals system with the goal of emerging from the three-year program seasoned and adept clinicians. Under the supervision of licensed clinicians, Corps Members will be equipped to screen, assess, and treat patients in a culturally responsive manner. The program is operated by NYC Health + Hospitals and supported by the Mayor’s Office of ThriveNYC.

We were honored to virtually host Henry Street Settlement, a 125-year-old social service agency, to discuss how clinical social workers are leading essential work on the micro, mezzo, and macro levels to support individuals and families within their transitional housing and supportive programs and advocate for housing and racial justice. Tari Nussinov ’20 Wins Student Writing Scholarship

Congratulations to Tari Nussinov ’20 on being selected for the 2020 Diana List Cullen Memorial First-Year MSW Student Writing Scholarship Award, sponsored by the Metropolitan Chapter of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work (NYSSCSW)!

Every year, the Met Chapter awards a $500 scholarship and one-year membership to one student from seven participating social work schools in the New York City area in recognition of outstanding clinically-oriented writing done in the first year of their MSW program. Tari’s paper, “DLCP – A Rhodesian Perspective” was recognized for its thoughtful and socio-culturally minded approach to understanding mental health concerns and engagement in care.

She was honored among other scholarship recipients at the awards reception held on Wednesday, November 7 at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in midtown Manhattan where they all presented a synopsis of their papers. We are proud of Tari and honored to have her represent CSSW!

About NYSSCSW

NYSSCSW is a professional association for clinical social work psychotherapists, MSW students, institute candidates, new professionals, and other mental health professionals committed to maintaining standards of professional education and practice in clinical social work psychotherapy in New York State. The Metropolitan Chapter covers New York, Brooklyn and Bronx Counties.

The Society organizes various educational activities and opportunities to interact and network directly with one another regarding referrals, office space rentals, managed care and insurance concerns, practice issues, educational activities sponsored by other organizations, and other issues of interest to our members. They also manage a listserv through which they communicate these activities as well as other invaluable resources.

The New York State Society for Clinical Social Work invites Social Work Students and New Graduates to learn more about their

Barbara Bryan Mentorship Group Program

Designed to help social work students and new professionals cope with professional life before and after graduation. Groups are small and meet once a month.

Led by very experienced licensed clinical social workers, these groups provide you with information, both practical and clinical, to help you with guidance, growth and the latest knowledge, to be part of the evolving field.

What you can learn at our once-a-month meetings:

  • Planning your career
  • Information and support for job searches
  • Case discussions
  • Professional ethics
  • Options for further training

Mentorship Group participation is FREE with membership in the NYSSCSW. Student membership, for students and new graduates, is presently $48 a year, for the first year.
