Honor our Fathers and Sons Day: 1st annual Men’s Conference and Resource Fair
December 10, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

The annual GTHM Men’s Conference is a resource fair designed to provide opportunities and information to returning adult men and male youth in our communities.
“The United States is the world’s leader in incarceration: There are 2.2 million people in the nation’s prisons and jails—a 500% increase over the last 40 years. Changes in law and policy, not changes in crime rates, explain most of this increase. The results are overcrowding in prisons and fiscal burdens on states, despite increasing evidence that large-scale incarceration is not an effective means of achieving public safety.” -Sentencing Project
The goal of this conference is to introduce opportunities, reinforce leadership potential and encourage career awareness amongst adult men and male youth. Black men are six times as likely to be incarcerated as white men and Hispanic men are more than twice as likely to be incarcerated as non-Hispanic white men. As community servants we take seriously our commitment to focus on adult men and male youth by providing platforms for successful employment, education and progressive life outcomes. This conference will introduce opportunities, reinforce leadership potential and encourage career awareness amongst adult men and male youth. The day will include speakers, networking, arts and more.
While men and male youth are the primary focus of this conference, we understand that women play an equally significant role in the progression of men and young boys and we encourage the presence of our women.
This event is sponsored by the Center for Justice at Columbia University, Opportunities and Change, Isaac’s Quarterly, Haydee Lee Media, ELS Life Fitness, and organized in collaboration with Just Leadership USA, FARM, Behind These Prison Walls, and ConBody
