A Community Review of the New Jim Crow: The Reality of Mass Incarceration is a forum co-hosted by the NYU Silver Undergraduate Student Government Association and the Educational Support Network. The forum will be a review and discussion of Michelle Alexander’s work, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.
The purpose of this event is not only to share our experiences but also to also analyze the lessons, challenges, and changes that can be implemented through advocacy and policy to initiate change. This event is endorsed by Michelle Alexander and will be hosted by Dr. Robert Hawkins, Associate Dean of the Silver School of Social Work.

We will be bringing together various groups from our community to discuss the realities of mass incarceration including NYU Silver School of Social Work, Columbia Center for Justice, The Doe Fund, John Jay Prison Re-Entry Institute, College Initiative, JustLeadershipUSA, the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research, and Rikers Island Literacy Program.
The panel will be moderated by Piper Anderson of the Prison Education Program and panelists include:
