SAYING THEIR NAMES PROJECT + BLACK OUT DAY
November 17, 2014 @ 12:10 pm - 1:10 pm
FreeIn continuing to raise awareness of issues of police brutality, the Black Law Students Association presents:
Saying Their Names Project + Black Out Day
From 12:10-1:10PM, we will have lunch for the law school community in JG 101 to showcase the posters. The entry ticket is the simple price of paying your respects for the lost lives by wearing all black, hence the “Black Out Day” title.
Every 28 hours, a black person is extrajudicially killed by a police officer, security guard, or vigilante. Between 2007 and 2012, police officers have killed two black people a week. In New York city alone, 132 people have been killed by NYPD since 2006.
On Monday, November 17, we are going to wear all black to mourn, to pay respects, and to celebrate the lives lost to law enforcement. We SAY THEIR NAMES to remind ourselves that there are real people whose lives were stolen, and whose families are shattered by their fatal encounters with police. If you would like to show your support, please wear all black on Monday, November 17.
We hope you choose to participate with BLSA in this project in remembering and mourning the many lives lost due to police brutality
