Discussion Prompt:
How do skills cultivated for improvising in one domain assist one’s improvising in others? There are improvisers in many different domains. Many everyday behaviors are also improvisatory. Does learning to improvise in one domain help you improvise in another? Or, are improvisatory skills confined to the domain of particular tasks? Does an improvising pianist get better at improvising on a saxophone by improvising on the piano? How do the skills cultivated in one area of expertise affect one’s ability to improvise in other, less familiar, domains.
