I have served on most of the departmental committees during my time at Columbia, such as graduate admissions, teaching assignments, colloquium committee, etc.
In the early 2000’s I served several years as Director of Graduate Studies.
Beginning in 2009, I served five years as Chair of Columbia’s Department of Physics. I am very proud of the outstanding faculty that we were able to hire during that period, (And of course we continue to hire outstanding individuals today!)
During my time as Chair I also proposed the Pupin Theory Center,
convinced the university to undertake this project and participated in all of the design meetings, including the re-design of the Rabi Room.
