Instron Test of Steel Cable

A load of 30 pounds (133.4 N) was applied 5 times on a 1/32” wire found in the lab producing the results below. Assuming these random variations are in a Gaussian destitution, we are 95% confident that Young’s Modules is between 59758.2 MPa and 60299.1 MPa.

Spool Design

One of the major design challenges in a cable-suspended haptic interface is the creation of the spool. The spool must be designed in a way to prevent the line from piling up as demonstrated by this video at 34 seconds. Another Retired Design

I would just like to share an update on the redesign. It had to be retired. It was simply not manufacturable in the MechE shop. The 0-80 screws needed were not compatible with the 3d printer’s tolerances.     I also wanted to share a nicely finalized part. Creo is […]

Redesign of Finger Joints

While CADing I found the original design of the finger joint to be clunky. The 3d printed joint body (yellow) holds a pin (orange) which is held in place with a 1/8 thick piece of laser cut acrylic sheet (red). This acrylic piece is then screwed in. The pins added […]
