Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for Providers

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is an emergency medication used to prevent HIV infection following a potential exposure. It is most effective if started immediately, but must be started within 72 hours of the exposure. The medication consists of combination antiretroviral therapies and is taken daily for 28 days.

Call the 24/7 NYC PEP Hotline at (844) 373-7692 for immediate assistance, or contact our Warmline at (917) 580-1862 for more information.

For more general information on PEP, please view our interactive modules or review our Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) information for patients.

Patients started on PEP should be considered as candidates to continue on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis.
