What is PEP?

(Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)

PEP is an emergency medication for people that do not have HIV, but think they might have recently been exposed to the virus. It is best to start the medication as soon as possible, but it must be started within 72 hours (3 days). The medication is then taken daily for 28 days. If you have taken PEP, you might want to consider continuing on PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).

How do I get PEP?

If you think you might have been exposed to HIV within the past 72 hours, talk to your provider immediately, call the NYC PEP Hotline at (844) 373-7692, or call our Warmline at (917) 580-1862 for more information.
