In 2004 the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene launched the NYC-Health and Nutrition Examination Study (NYCHANES) to gather health data on a representative sample of New Yorkers. The NYCHANES is modeled on the National HANES (NHANES) which provides health surveillance data for the entire country, but NHANES does not provide City level estimates. We have begun mining the NYCHANES data using the Department’s EpiQuery tool, assessing disparities in health conditions among New Yorkers by level of education.
