Climate Society Community Outreach formed during the drafting of the IRI statement commuting to dismantling racism and has continued working to advance the goals put forth in the statement of:
“Increase recruitment attention and outreach effort to networks and communities of prospective Black students and professionals
Engage college and highschool students about studies and careers associated with climate science in local underserved communities” – IRI statement on their Commitment to Dismantling Racism in Their Own Workplace and Community
This group aims to partner with historically under-resourced communities, listen to educators and community leaders, and to collaborate on shared goals. Activities we envision include working closely with students on projects connecting climate science to local issues as well as other preparation for careers in STEM. We currently partner with the Nyack Center and aim to extend our efforts to more communities throughout New York.
