Big Sibs Mentorship Program

Introduction

The purpose of the Bigs Sibs Mentorship Program is to foster encouraging mentor/mentee relationships between medical students in Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons’ Black and Latino Student Organization (B.A.L.S.O ) and pre-medical Charles Drew members.

Description

This program is designed to pair Columbia premedical students with Columbia medical students who will mentor them in diverse aspects of pre-med life, while also introducing them to unique life changes and experiences that becoming a medical student brings.  This includes but is not limited to: applying to medical schools, studying for the MCAT, interviewing at medical schools, discovering what medical school is like, and adjusting to the challenges of being an MD candidate.

Throughout the course of the year, we will hold fun events to help mentors and mentees connect with each other. As this is a new initiative for our society, we at Charles Drew are extremely excited by the potential this program has to help undergraduates in the premedical curriculum here at Columbia and keep hold of their dream to become physicians.
