Melos amoris: Music from a Mystical Manuscript

Richard Rolle’s masterpiece Melos amoris stands as the most exuberant expression of the fourteenth-century English mystic’s spirituality, at the apex of which the contemplative enters into constant audition of angelic song. One crucial manuscript pairs the Melos with a collection of medieval English sacred music, some of it the familiar work of well-known composers, some of it unheard since the fifteenth century. Join us as Sine Nomine, musicians in residence at Toronto’s Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, perform this rare repertoire, interspersed with readings from the Melos amoris by Andrew Albin, senior fellow at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.
