Workshop
“The Antiquarians: Who Were They?”
The Italian Academy for Advanced Studies, 1161 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10027
Anthony Grafton (Princeton), David Freedberg (Columbia), and Ginette Vagenheim (Italian Academy Fellow 2014; Université de Rouen), with Elizabeth A.R. Brown (CUNY, emerita), Peter Miller (Bard Graduate Center), Irina Oryshkevich (independent scholar), Nancy Siraisi (Hunter College and the Graduate Center CUNY, emerita), Will Stenhouse (Yeshiva), and other participants and speakers will address the programs and practices of early modern antiquarians in this afternoon workshop. A remarkable group of scholars will discuss the meanings of the actual term “antiquarius” and related terms for scholars and genres, in all the various contexts we work in, and establish whether it might be possible to plan further directed discussions, and perhaps even a collaborative or collective publication.
Seating is limited. Registration required: https://adobeformscentral.com/?f=uUpFXNENG-iVSs5351Mydg
Organizers: Anthony Grafton (Henry Putnam University Professor of History, Princeton University) and Ginette Vagenheim (Italian Academy Fellow 2014; Université de Rouen)
