The Alphonse M. Donato Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies at Stony Brook University presents the conference “Dante Worlds: Echoes, Places, Questions.”

This year marks the 750th anniversary of the birth of Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), arguably the greatest author in Western culture. His impact has been felt at several levels and in diverse domains, from linguistics to poetics, from theology to philosophy, from political thought to psychology, from mythology to science. The D’Amato Chair, principal organizer, is bringing together a group of scholars and thinkers from different backgrounds to examine aspects of the large footprint Dante has left often in the most unlikely areas of our cultural heritage. Even more intriguing is locating how and where his thought resonates, today, ankle-deep into the XXI century.

Featured speakers:
Teodolinda Barolini (Keynote; Columbia Univ), Christopher Celenza (Johns Hopkins Univ), Paolo Cherchi (Univ of Chicago, emeritus), Robert Harvey (Stony Brook Univ), Roberta Morosini (Wake Forest Univ), Teresa Caligiure (Univ of Calabria), Simone Brioni (Stony Brook Univ), Andrea Fedi (Stony Brook Univ), Martino Marazzi (Univ of Milan).

The conference is free and open to the public.
