Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at 8PM St. Paul’s Chapel at Columbia University 1160 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10027 Music of the Franco-Flemish World and Beyond Free Admission sponsored by Early Music Columbia
with Jude Ziliak, violin Elizabeth Weinfield, Amy Domingues, and Shirley Hunt, viola da gamba Dylan Sauerwald, organ Peter Walker, bass-baritone James Kennerley, tenor
This program will paint a broad picture of musical composition during the lifetime of Josquin Desprez. We will explore the great Franco-Flemish madrigal tradition using voices and viols, and venture to Spain—inspired by Ottoman tunes treated by court composers also connected to Charles V—and to England—to chart the influences of this music on the great consort composers at the court of Elizabeth I.
