Rutgers’ Digital Humanities Initiative’s fifth and final digital lab on network analysis is scheduled for Wednesday, May 4th, 11-12:30 in Alexander 415 (more on the series at http://dh.rutgers.edu/spring-2016-workshops/ ). This workshop will introduce the basic concepts and practice of network analysis for the humanist researcher.
Networks are formal representations of things and their relationships. Humanists have adopted network analysis as a means to study anything from the similarities between literary genres, to the ties of kinship or association that unite historical figures.
Francesca Giannetti, Digital Humanities Librarian, will lead the workshop, exploring an Instagram dataset to learn about basic network concepts and the steps to analyze and visualize social media data, on Gephi, which is installed on the lab computers.
