The Hispanic Studies Graduate Group invites you this Friday 9/13 at 1PM to attend “(Re)Constructing Virginity: a roundtable discussion of the curious Salamanca manuscript “Como hacer las mujeres apretadas como si fueran vargenesa” (How to tighten women to make them seem like virgins).
Diana EguÃa, Lindsey Reuben, and Jennifer Thorndike, the three graduate student participants of this past summer’s intensive paleography workshop focused on medical marginalia in Salamanca, Spain led by Profs. Michael Solomon (Penn) and Francisco Bautista (Universidad de Salamanca), will discuss their work on the manuscript in the context of medieval and early modern discourses on virginity. Michael Solomon and Sonia Velázquez will respond.
The event will take place at the Cherpack Seminar Room, 5th floor of Williams Hall. Lunch will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Solomon or Sonia Velázquez.
