Join us in welcoming Ralph Rosen at our upcoming Research Tea, Wednesday, April 5 @ 4:00 pm, he’ll be talking about Working with Greek and Roman Satirists. Location: Van Pelt Library, 2nd floor, Meyerson Conference Room
http://libcal.library.upenn.edu/event/3037486

Ralph writes: ‘I will discuss the many aspects of literary (and non-literary) satire that have intrigued me throughout my career- the elusiveness of the satirist’s voice, the clash between the claims to sincerity and the need to produce comedy, the trickiness of comic irony and the dangers (real or imagined) of public mockery. These are all enduring problems and dilemmas of satire in any era, but I will discuss specific challenges posed by Greek and Roman satirists such as the Athenian comic dramatist Aristophanes, the Roman poets Horace and Juvenal.’

Research teas are a chance to engage and learn about ongoing research in an informal and relaxed setting. We always have tea and cookies.
