NYU’s Medieval Forum and MARGIN (the Medieval & Renaissance Graduate Interdisciplinary Network) are delighted to be co-hosting a lecture by Dr. Elizabeth Scala from the University of Texas, Austin. The talk will take place on March 22, 6-8pm, and will be held in the English Department’s Event Space (244 Green St.). Please find the details of the talk below, and we look forward to having you join us!
Title: “Shakespeare’s Secret Book”
About: Dr. Scala will be discussing the editions of Chaucer that were published in the sixteenth century and that can provide a cultural background for Shakespeare’s relation to Chaucer’s works, a relation that had all but been undone by the New Historicism. She will be arguing for new ways to approach Chaucer as a source for various texts by Shakespeare by looking beyond the relations of a single work of Chaucer for any particular play.
