6:00 PM in the Lecture Hall
The Institute of Fine Arts, New York University
1 East 78th Street
Please note that seating in the Lecture Hall is on a first-come, first-served basis with RSVP. There will be a simulcast in an adjacent room to accommodate overflow. Latecomers are not guaranteed a seat.

Focusing on Titian’s early works, the talk will revolve around the discussion of individuals touched by time and touched, therefore, by the shadow of death: the murderous strike of the jealous husband who plummets his steely dagger into his wife’s body; the Magdalene who reaches out towards her beloved Master; lovers that lock gazes against an eternal sunset that will never slip into twilight; the musicians’ song, which cannot sustain itself beyond the image. Touch me! Touch me not! This is the tension that lies on the surface of Titian’s greatest paintings and that is often enacted in the stories that he portrays.
Please RSVP here.
