Music for Three Sovereigns presented by Blue Heron pays tribute to Maximilian I, the Holy Roman Emperor, his daughter Marguerite of Austria, and the tragic heroin Dido, Queen of Carthage.  The program includes polyphonic music from some of the greatest Renaissance masters, such as Josquin, Obrecht, Mouton, and Isaac: sacred music from the Liber selectarum cantionum, published in 1520 by Senfl containing music performed at Maximilian’s chapel, as well as settings of Dido’s lament from Aeneid, culled from manuscripts prepared in the Burgundian scriptorium under Marguerite.  The singers will be accompanied by a cornetto and sackbut, referencing the configuration of Maximilian’s chapel depicted in the famous woodcut series, “The Triumph of Maximilian.”

Tickets are $35. A discounted ticket price of $20 is available to students with valid ID for tickets bought at the door on the day of the concert.
