Tommaso di Carpegna Falconieri (Università degli Studi di Urbino) on “Medievalism in Contemporary Political Cultures: Europe and America in Contrast”
CAC, Van Dyck Hall 301
Tommaso di Carpegna Falconieri is a permanent researcher (ricercatore confermato) at the University of Urbino, where he teaches medieval
history. His principal research themes are the history of Rome and the Roman Church in the Middle Ages, topics about which he has published numerous articles and two books (‘Cola di Rienzo’, Salerno Editrice 2002, and ‘Il clero di Roma nel medioevo’, Viella 2002). He also investigates the general theme of historic evidence, especially with respect to forgery and imposture. His book on that subject has recently been translated into English: ‘The Man Who Believed He Was King of France. A True Medieval Tale’ (University of Chicago Press 2008). Currently, he is concentrating on the use of ideas of the Middle Ages in contemporary politics, the subject of his latest book, ‘Medioevo militante. La politica di oggi alle prese con barbari e crociati’ (Einaudi 2011). For a complete list of his publications, please see here.
