On Friday, February 20 at 2 pm in 622 Dodge Hall, Stefano Lorenzetti (a Fellow at the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America) will speak on “Scritte nella mente”? Giovanni Gabrieli’s Keyboard Music and the Art of ‘Improvised Composition’.
A reception will follow the presentation.
Stefano Lorenzetti studied organ and harpsichord with Kenneth Gilbert and earned his Ph. D. in History and Civilization at the European University Institute of Florence. Currently, he is professor of the History of Music at Conservatory of music of Vicenza. Lorenzetti’s research focuses on the history of education, on the history of ideas, on the history of the Italian oratorio, on the relationship between music and the art of memory and on performance practice and musical space. He is the author of Musica e identità nobiliare nell’Italia del Rinascimento. Educazione, mentalità, immaginario (2003) as well as numerous essays on Renaissance music.
