Cristiana Sogno (Fordham)
“History and the cure for curiosity”
Location: Faculty House
(precise location will be posted in the Faculty House lobby)
Professor Sogno has kindly shared an abstract of her upcoming talk:
“In this paper I explore the special relationship between (ancient) historiography and curiosity. I am interested in particular in Plutarch’s idiosyncratic view of historía as a cure for the disease of curiosity and examine the concept of historía invoked by Plutarch in the De curiositate in relation to his practice as a biographer.”
The evening will begin with drinks at 5:45 PM at the third-floor dining room of Faculty House, followed by dinner at 6:15 PM. Please email our rapporteur, Anna Conser, at [email protected] by noon on Monday, October 19th, in order to make a dinner reservation. Note that the price of the meal is $25, payable by check to “Columbia University.”
