On Thursday, October 15, from 6pm-9pm in Barnard College’s Ella Weed Room (Milbank Hall, 223), Robert Hanning, Professor Emeritus of English & Comparative Literature at Columbia, will be the first speaker in our Medieval and Renaissance Lives Series this year. In this series, alumni of Columbia and Barnard discuss in an informal setting their academic and professional trajectories, as well as their current work.
Professor Hanning has both a BA and a Ph.D from Columbia, and taught at Columbia for 45 years. His interests include medieval English literature, Chaucer, and the cultural function of medieval narrative forms. He has published books on medieval historiography and romance, including, most recently, Serious Play: Desire and Authority in the Poetry of Ovid, Chaucer, and Ariosto (Columbia University Press, 2010).
