Thursday, November 15
6:00 PM-7:30 PM
Dinner with speakers to follow

13-19 University Place, the Great Room
New York University

Featuring presentations by and then a general discussion with Maureen McLane (faculty, NYU English Dept.) and Evelyn (Timmie) Birge Vitz (faculty, NYU French Dept.)

Professors Vitz and McLane will share their thoughts on ballads and balladry, medieval to postmodern, in light of their own research and teaching.  Topics likely to be explored: ballad forms and stories, ballad variants, social functions of the ballad, male and female voices/stories in ballads, transmission/transmitters, performativity/performers, “authenticity,” orality and transmediality, emotion in ballads, ballad pasts and ballad futures.

Please RSVP to Emile Young ([email protected]) if you are interested in joining the speakers for dinner following the event.
