A Manuscripts Research Workshop lead by Prof. Stephen Partridge (UBC) Weds. 17 April, 2.30-4.30pm

Our workshop will begin with Prof. Partridge leading a discussion of his current project on pilgrim portraits in “Canterbury Tales” Mss., and fragments of Chaucerian Mss. (esp. those at the Rosenbach [Mss. 1084/1&2] and “The Oxford Fragments” at John Rylands Library, Manchester). During our discussion we’ll be thinking about Ms. fragments & “whole codices”, dis-& re-binding practices, canonicity and the centrality of considering these texts’ materiality to informing how we conceive of and access “The Medieval (Chaucerian) Work.” With these ideas in mind, we will then join Prof. Partridge in exploring a selection of such anthology/miscellany type medieval Mss. and early printed books from Penn’s collections.

This should be a terrific opportunity to learn from leading scholar in the field – hope you can make it! Please RSVP to Alex <[email protected]>by 14th April.
