Friends of the Saints:

“Reason and Narrative in the Experience of Conversion: The Vie de seint Clement”

Laurie Postlewate (Department of French, Barnard College)

Friday 10 April, 7:00 pm, in the Dissertation Defense room in the History Department Lounge (room 5101), Graduate Center CUNY (365 Fifth Avenue).

“In this talk I will explore shifts in how the experience of conversion is understood and represented in hagiographic narratives. To try out some ideas, I will do a bit of textual analysis with the Vie de seint Clement, a thirteenth-century Anglo-Norman life. It is part of a larger project on translation/adaptation of vernacular hagiography.”
