How does humor translate? Elsa Kammerer examines the first German translation of the works of French comic genius François Rabelais. What challenges did Johann Fischart (1545-1591) face while translating the scatological and deeply political story of a giant called Gargantua? Elsa Kammerer is a professor in the department of French and comparative literature at the Université Lille III. This event is sponsored by the Barnard Center for Translation Studies, funded by the Mellon Foundation.
