The Graduate Medieval Colloquium (aka MedGuild) presents:

“Conversations Across the Mediterranean”: An interdisciplinary chat with Seth Kimmel (Department of Latin American and Iberian Cultures) and Pier Mattia Tommasino (Italian Department) December 11 5:00 PM 409 Barnard Hall

How do modern constructions of the medieval world affect contemporary political and social debates about religion, race, and immigration?  How did knowledge from the Islamic Iberian peninsula make its way to Italy, and what effects did it have there (and how did Italian cultural movements make their way back west to Spain and Portugal)?  What role did religious skepticism play in these movements?  The Medieval Colloquium is pleased to invite anyone with an interest in these or other cross-cultural or interdisciplinary connections within the medieval world to “Conversations Across the Mediterranean: Chatting with Seth Kimmel and Pier Mattia Tommasino.”  Join us December 11 at 5:00 PM for an informal discussion with Seth Kimmel (Latin American and Iberian Cultures) and Pier Mattia Tommasino (Italian) about their research interests, and how these interests intersect and overlap.  Questions from audience members about points of contact with their own research interests are especially welcome.
