i. What is it? This project is a biology lab course taught to underserved high schoolers at the Double Discovery Center (DDC). It was first taught in fall of 2022.

ii. What is the scientific content? This course covers cell biology, microbiology, genomics and transcriptomics and how these topics are studied within a laboratory environment. The course follows a research narrative arc; students learn the theory behind a research question, work through the techniques necessary to answer this question and lastly present their findings.

iii. What is the pedagogical approach of this course? The course emphasizes project-based learning as foundational to a student’s development as a life-long learner.

iv. Who is the course geared towards? Students with previous background in Biology such as AP Biology coursework are encouraged to take this course.
