Center for Justice’s Cameron Rasmussen Quoted in VICE Magazine: Friday Night Hip-Hop on Rikers Island

In an ongoing initiative to provide educational opportunities for incarcerated youth, Columbia University’s Center for Justice has initiated “Beats, Rhymes, & Justice,” a weekly workshop that teaches young inmates how to write lyrics and make beats.

“It’s a program, but it’s also a project,” Rasmussen explains. “For years, we’ve been investing in jails and prisons, and divesting in communities. For a paradigm to shift, we need to deal with this issue on both ends—before you go in, and when you come out.”
