Upgrading to Version 4.1.1

We will upgrade the WordPress software on Friday 4/24/2015 starting at 7:30 am. It should take about 2 hours. During the upgrade, there will be times when your site may not be available, or may appear to be missing features.

Since upgrades can affect the way some plugins and themes work, we ask you to check your site on our staging server where the upgrade has already been done. You will find a link to your site on the staging server in the upgrade announcement on  your blog’s admin area. Sites were copied to the staging server on April 3, so sites created after that date are not included.

WordPress Update (3.9) – May 13, 2014

We will be upgrading our WordPress installation to the latest version (3.9) on May 13th 2014 starting at 3pm.  We expect the upgrade to take about 2 hours.  Many themes and plugins  will be updated along with the WordPress core.

Two-Step Upgrades

This WordPress installation has become pretty large lately, with us hosting over 400 sites with over 900 users. When we need to make updates there is always the potential to break some of these sites, and due to the large number of them, it’s hard for us to make sure they all work.

Recently we’ve started doing “two-step upgrades” where we make the upgrades on a separate, identical server and ask our users to take a look at their blog-counterparts to make sure everything is still working correctly. We call this second server our “staging server”… and you can even access it here. This cuts down on the time it takes for us to perform WordPress upgrades which then allows us to get the next batch of upgrades out the door faster.

WordPress Update to 3.4.1 scheduled for July 11th

We are upgrading WordPress to the latest version (3.4.1). This update is scheduled for 7/11/2012 between 5 and 6pm. This update can potentially cause some plugins and themes to stop working.

We are running a separate copy of the blog along with all pending updates. You are encouraged to check your blog on this “staging” site to make sure there are no issues. You can see your blog with the pending updates by following these instructions:

  1. Once you log in to your blog, you will see a message in the administration area pointing you to your blog’s counterpart on our test server. Follow the instructions in that message to log into your test blog.
  2. Browse around your test blog to see if any pages seem to be malfunctioning. In particular, check to see that your theme still looks the same, and that any plugins you are using are still functioning correctly.
  3. You should not make any updates on the test blog. Any updates you make in this test area will get deleted.
  4. If you see any issues or have any questions, send us an email explaining them and be sure to include your blog’s URL. Please email us at [email protected].
