Nutrient Film Technique
Summary: N.F.T. systems have a constant flow of nutrient solution, so they do not require a timer for the submersible pump. Nutrient solution is pumped into a growing tray (tube) and flows over the roots of the plants, draining back into the reservoir.
Pro: No growing medium is used (other than air), saving the expense of replacing the growing medium after every crop.
Con: N.F.T. systems are susceptible to power outages and pump failures. The roots dry out quickly if the flow of nutrient solution is interrupted.
