What to do now that decisions are live

Hi everyone,

As you may already be aware, decisions rolled out Monday afternoon. While the majority of decisions have already gone out, we plan to release the remainder over the next few days. It hasn’t been easy issuing a mix of decisions to hundreds of qualified candidates, but the Admissions Committee has done a fantastic job nonetheless. While not all decision letters have brought happy news, I know you have questions about what to do next. Thus, I thought this would be a good time to recap what it all means; from waitlists to appeals, and everything in between.

Join us for Twitter Talk Thursday!

We know you’ve got questions…

and we want to answer them.

Our admissions and financial aid officers answer your questions about student life, the application process, fellowships and more, via emails, phone calls and the Admissions Blog. We also host weekly webinars and in-person information sessions. But we want to do more for you.

So we’re trying something new in the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid. Starting this month, we’re introducing a new way to get in touch with us: Twitter Talk Thursdays. This monthly, one-hour chat session will allow you to ask us in real-time your most pressing admissions questions. Not sure how to answer the optional essay? Want to confirm the types of course listings to include on your quantitative resume? Curious about the differences between scholarships and assistantships? Then this monthly event is for you!

The best way to email our office

The fellowship deadline has past, and we’re working hard on assembling your application materials and reviewing completed applications. We can hardly wait to welcome the first members of the Class of 2017 to SIPA!

Before we can send out that first batch of decision letters, we have to ensure that your applications are complete. If you recall our recent post about application statuses, it takes a little legwork to get everyone organized. Thus, we’ve been receiving a large volume of email inquiries about submitted applications. To ensure we respond to your message in a timely fashion, we’re requesting that you email us with a subject line that clearly identifies the specific component of your application that you’re inquiring about. For example, instead of sending us a message with Question or Application in the subject line, please  send a message with My GRE scores or TOEFL Waiver Request for Reference No. 0555123456. By being direct with your subject line, you’ll help us triage your request faster so we can get you a response that much sooner.

Additionally, all emails should include your full, legal name and nine-digit application number. (There are a lot of Michaels, Jessicas and Yues out there!)

And don’t forget to review our recent blog posts before emailing or calling us. The Admissions Blog is truly chalk-full of valuable information! You may find these posts especially helpful:

For those still eager to apply, these posts should get you on the right track:

Don’t forget: our final application deadline is February 5, 2015. You can apply here!

Why you should join the IFP

You may have heard about the prestigious International Fellows Program (IFP).  It is highly competitive, as only 30 Columbia University students (10 new SIPA students, 10 continuing SIPA students and 10 Columbia University graduate students)  are selected each year to participate in the program.  Once you are an international fellow, you are a member for life.
