A student reflection on the DC Career Conference

The SIPA Office of Career Services hosted SIPA´s 39th Annual Washington, D.C. Career Conference from January 13 – 15. SIPA alumni and other professionals based in the Washington, D.C. area participated in the conference, which introduced attendees to the capital and informed them of employment opportunities. This three-day event consisted of 16 career panels, various employer site visits, an alumni/student networking reception, and a day for informational interviews with alumni.

Pablo Bejar (PEPM ’15) attended the event. Pablo attained his Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in Economics from California State University, where he graduated with honors and published his thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility and Financial Performance.

Do you want to specialize in United Nations Studies next year?

If you haven’t heard, the long anticipated United Nations Studies specialization has arrived at SIPA!

The 2014–2015 academic year marks a new chapter in United Nations Studies (UNS) at SIPA. Due to the hard work of UNS Director, Professor Elisabeth Lindenmayer, and the enthusiasm of committed students in the previous academic year, the SIPA administration, led by Dean Merit Janow, agreed to a more institutionalized structure for UNS. Now, for the first time in the history of SIPA, students are able to choose a specialization in UN Studies! Accordingly, the “co-curricular” status of the formerly known United Nations Studies Program was phased out, making way for the UNS specialization path of study, under the umbrella of the International Organizations (IO) specialization.

Dean’s Seminar Series on Race and Policy: A Talk with Patricia J. Williams

Join Dean Merit E. Janow, Vice Dean Miguel Urquiola, and Patricia J. Williams, James L. Dohr Professor of Law and renowned author, for the inaugural lecture in the Dean’s Seminar Series on Race and Policy. The seminar, which will be live streamed on the Internet, will focus on U.S. policing and surveillance strategies and their export to other nations.

Patricia Williams has published widely in the areas of race, gender, and the law, and on other issues of legal theory and legal writing. Her books include The Alchemy of Race and Rights; The Rooster’s Egg; and Seeing a Color Blind Future: The Paradox of Race. She is a regular columnist for The Nation.
