Columbia University has been a vital hub for Prokofiev studies since the deposit of a rich trove of the composer’s archival material at the University in 2014. The Serge Prokofiev Archive, housed at Columbia’s Rare Book & Manuscript Library and supported by the Serge Prokofiev Foundation, is the premier documentary resource relating to Prokofiev’s time in the West (1918-1936).
This website provides information about events organized by the Serge Prokofiev Archive to foster scholarly and public engagement with our collection.
One of our core activities is the Prokofiev Symposium, an international and interdisciplinary meeting of scholars who share new discoveries related to Prokofiev, his cultural context, and his legacy.
The next Symposium “Prokofiev in Paris: Exploring early 20th Century Cultural Networks through Digital Archives” will take place in Paris, France June 18-19, 2026. Please see the schedule here.
To search and browse the nearly 20,000 items in the Serge Prokofiev Archive, see the Finding Aid on the Columbia University Rare Book & Manuscript Library website. And visit us! The SPA is open welcomes researchers exploring any aspect of Prokofiev’s life, music and legacy.
