Mentoring

The Scholar Chapter plays an advocacy role for greater access to higher education for students of color through its outreach into the local community. Chapter members serve as role models by actively educating youth about how to prepare for college. Providing opportunities for service gives members a stronger commitment to their own goals and teaches leadership skills.

HSF/CASW MENTORING PROGAM

Our Chapter established a partnership with the Children’s Arts and Science Workshop (CASW), Inc. in 2007. CASW provides high school students from Washington Heights with educational, recreational, cultural, and employment programs.

The goal of the mentoring program is to prepare high school students for college admissions. Every other Friday CASW brings a group of students to Columbia to attend workshops planned by HSF mentors.

Our mentoring workshops usually take place on Fridays between 5 and 7pm in either the CASW headquarters on 181st street (transportation paid!) or on campus at Columbia Univerisity.
