CSSW Graduation Student Speaker: Apply Here
We are currently seeking nominations for a graduate keynote speaker at the CSSW Graduation. The time allotted for the student graduation speech is 5 minutes. Well received speeches are those that reflect on the common educational experience and share, in a personal way, the value of an education received at the Columbia School of Social Work.
Application and Selection Process
A graduating MSSW student and a graduating PhD student will be selected to address the graduating class at the CSSW Commencement. The speaker must be a member of the graduating class they plan to address.
MSSW students who wish to be considered must complete the “Graduation Speaker Application” form, found here. In addition to the application, each prospective speaker must also submit a copy of their five-minute proposed speech. Students must self-nominate to be considered. The deadline for submitting the application materials is Friday, March 26, 2021 at 5:00 PM (ET).
Doctoral students interested in being the Doctoral Student Speaker should reach out to Jessica Troiano at [email protected]. The application form is for MSSW students only.

Regalia & Regalia Assistance
Regalia (caps and gowns) are not required to participate in the commencement ceremonies. Graduates interested in purchasing caps and gowns are encouraged to place their order no later than March 31, 2021.

Regalia Assistance Request Form
The purpose of regalia assistance/reimbursement funding is to help defer the cost of regalia by providing financial assistance to CSSW students at the end of their program.
1. The regalia assistance will come in the form of a partial reimbursement. Funds are limited and the reimbursement amount is to be determined, based on the number of applicants.
2. To receive reimbursement, students MUST complete this form. Students will also be required to submit receipts and all necessary paperwork through Concur (Columbia University’s platform for submitting reimbursement requests). All applications must be received by Friday, March 26th at 11:59 PM (ET).
3. The Office of Student Services and Student Life has the final approval over reimbursement requests. Please note that applying for assistance does not automatically grant funding. Notifications will be distributed by March 30th.

DIY Grad Kit
Request a DIY grad kit from the Columbia University Commencement Office in the mail by April 1st to receive photo booth props, mortarboard templates, and other fun surprises. Go to this site and scroll to the bottom of the page and submit the required form.
Only eligible graduates from the 2020-2021 academic year will qualify to receive a celebratory package. Orders will be fulfilled on a rolling basis starting mid-March.

Columbia School of Social Work Virtual Graduation Ceremony

Congratulations, Class of 2021! CSSW is hosting a virtual graduation to celebrate all that you have accomplished during your time at the School!
The School’s graduation ceremony will feature a keynote speaker and two student speakers, a Master’s graduate and a doctoral graduate. During the ceremony, each graduate’s name will be read and each graduate will be recognized with a slide that can be customized with a photo or video and a personal message. Each graduate will also receive a shareable personalized graduation website, which will allow for the display of photos, videos, and texts.
