Congratulations, graduates!

We are all looking forward to celebrating our graduates and welcoming their families and loved ones to our Class Days and school graduation ceremonies. To keep our celebrations safe, respectful, and running smoothly, we have updated guidelines for graduates and guests.

  • Wear comfortable footwear; heels are not recommended.
  • Fully charged phone (and maybe even an external battery).

What not to bring:

  • Balloons, sky lanterns, and other celebratory embellishments such as large placards, signs, flags, or any items that could obstruct the view of guests and graduates are not permitted.

Event Disruptions:

  • Commencement season is a time to celebrate and enjoy the accomplishments of our graduates. To honor the spirit and significance of this occasion, we do not permit the interruption of speakers or audience disruptions.
  • All participants and guests attending Commencement season event(s) understand and agree to follow the responsibilities set forth in University policies, including the Rules of University Conduct and Standards and Discipline. Those found in violation will be asked to discontinue and may be asked to leave the venue.

ALL guests will be required to show their IDs, regardless. It is important to send your guest’s names in case issues arise. We will have a troubleshooting tent that can look up each person’s guest name, if needed.

  • Graduates MUST bring their government-issued ID, their CUID, and their GradPass.

You’ll also show this at the scanning podium and it will activate your name to be announced. Please go to https://columbiau.marchingorder.com/Home/SSOLogin to access your GradPass. There is a blue button once you log on that says, “Print GradPass”
  • We strongly encourage graduates to NOT bring bags and personal items. All bags and personal items will undergo inspection.

  • The procession from the Inner Concourse to the Graduate Seating is long. Please wear comfortable shoes. Graduates will walk through turf to their seats–we do not recommend wearing high heels.
  • We recommend using Isham Park or Inwood Hill Park as a meeting point for you and your guests after the graduation ceremony.
  • We encourage all graduates and guests to read through this link: https://commencement.columbia.edu/content/ceremonies-baker-athletics-complex

To ensure that there will be enough disability seating for all attendees, we ask that each person be accompanied by no more than one other person in their party.
  • In order to enter the venue, guests must have a valid ticket and a government-issued ID. We strongly encourage guests to NOT bring bags. All bags and personal items will undergo inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Guests three years old and older need a ticket.

The graduate with the extra ticket will need to enter the name of the guest of the graduate they wish to give the ticket. We recommend only making this arrangement with someone you trust because tickets can only be used/scanned once. Guests without a valid ticket CAN NOT enter the ceremony. No exceptions can or will be made.

The lottery is not guaranteed and the number of tickets to be distributed depends upon the number of tickets that graduates do not order. In the last two years, we’ve been able to accommodate most lottery applicants.
