Leland Gershell, MD, PhD
Dr. Gershell is currently a consultant to institutional investors. His recent work experience includes senior analyst and portfolio manager positions at Apothecary Capital LLC, a healthcare-only hedge fund.Prior to Apothecary, he was a Vice President in biotechnology equity research at Cowen and Company for four years. Dr. Gershell holds a B.A. in Chemistry and Asian Studies from Dartmouth College, and an M.D. and Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Columbia University. He performed his doctoral work under Professors Ronald Breslow (histone deactylase inhibitors) and Clark Still (molecular recognition). While at Columbia, he co-founded AGW BioStrategy LLC, a life sciences consulting firm.

BJ Wright, PhD
Dr. Wright received his bachelor’s degree from Willamette University in 2003 before pursuing graduate studies at Columbia University. He attained his Ph. D. investigating the synthesis of natural product scaffolds with anticancer properties – including derivatives of ET-743 and pluraflavin A – in the lab of Professor Sam Danishefsky. Since graduating from Columbia in 2008, Dr. Wright has been a consultant with McKinsey & Co. working primarily in healthcare engagements (pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and healthcare IT).

Medicinal Chemistry Speaker

John Huber, PhD
Dr. Huber received his bachelor’s degree in 2000 from Swarthmore College with a major in chemistry and a minor in sociology. He then began work at Merck Research Laboratories in Rahway, NJ as an associate chemist in the Medicinal Chemistry Department. Dr. Huber left Merck in 2002 to pursue his Ph. D. studies at Columbia University working in the lab of Professor James Leighton. Since graduating from Columbia in 2007 Dr. Huber has been a Senior Scientist in the Medicinal Chemistry Department at Boehringer-Ingelheim (BI) Pharmaceuticals in Danbury, CT. At BI he has worked on programs in heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic kidney disease.
