Yoshie Tomozumi Nakamura, Director of Research
Dr. Yoshie Tomozumi Nakamura ([email protected]) is Director of Organizational Learning and Research at Columbia Business Graduate School of Business Executive Education. She leads the Return on Learning Lab. Dr. Nakamura received her doctorate in Adult Learning and Leadership from Columbia University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Literature; a Master of Arts in International Education; and a Master of Education in Adult Learning and Leadership.
Graduate Research Assistants
Han Sun is a first year M.S. student in Operations Research at Columbia University, having received his B.S. in Automation at Zhejiang University. Driven by a passion for data and reasoning, he has tried different fields of data and analysis, from consulting to quantitative research. He has experience in the intersection of tech and business, having worked as intern at Deloitte Consulting and Bain & Company. Later, he moved on to systems analysis for Honeywell and quantitative research for HSBC. At Honeywell, Han analyzed over 1 million row datasets to maintain the robustness of the production line and, also, used convolutional neural networks to build an asset management model. As a fan of ancient Roman history, he studied Roman history at UCLA for several months. Han is proficient with Python, Javascript and C/C++ for data analysis and making small games. When possible, Han enjoys detective novels.
Huiying Zhang is a Masters student in applied math at the Fu Foundation School of Engineering in Columbia University and recently joined the team in December 2017. She enjoys working with data and has previously worked with data driven models in a variety of fields including structural health monitoring and insurance. In past experiences she has frequently used MATLAB, Python, R, and SAS.
Parul Kaushik has been an Organizational learning and change consultant for over 15 years, is a graduate of Columbia University’s Clinical Psychology program and has a Masters in Organizational behavior. She uses a unique and incisive blend of psychology research that allows insight into the full spectrum of conscious and unconscious behaviors of healthy and dysfunctional leaders and teams. Her work focuses on uncovering group dynamics and organizational defenses and rituals, irrespective of an organization’s timeline. She has enabled CxOs in financial giants like HSBC and Metlife, Secretaries of Government and Governance heads at the United Nations across Asia and Europe.
Rehan Rehman is currently pursuing his MSc in Neuroscience and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience from The University of Nottingham where he used electroencephalography (EEG) to validate diagnostic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s Disease and investigated the effects of modality on recognition memory. Rehan was a faculty member at Nixor College in Pakistan where he taught Psychology to high school students before coming to Teachers College. He is currently interested in examining the effects of socioeconomic status on child brain development and neurocognitive outcomes in relation to education as a member of the Neurocognition, Early Experience and Development (NEED) lab at Columbia. As a research assistant in the Return on Learning Laboratory, Rehan is examining how the fields of neuroscience and business intersect with each other and how could we optimize learning in executive education.
TaeYoung Choi is a first year MS student in Data Science at Columbia University, with undergraduate degrees in Operations Research, and Mathematics and Statistics. As a data science intern at MyCelebs (a Korean start-up), he developed a Python program to collect, clean and analyze text data on the web. Using this program, he prepared the data needed for analysis by their natural language processing team. He also spent three years at Carleton College majoring in Mathematics and Statistics. He instructed on the proper use of R as a statistics lab assistant. With his statistics background, he worked as a data analyst intern at JBK Global. He performed statistical analysis to identify useful factors affecting revenue and describing the relationship between advertising and sales performance. He is also a current board member of Columbia Data Science Society.
Xiaoxue Du is a Master of Education graduate student in Instructional Technology and Media at Teachers College, Columbia University. She works on research projects with the online learning team. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication and Literature, a Master of Arts in Politics, and a Master of Arts in Technology Specialist in K-12 Education.
Undergraduate Research Assistants
Aidan Rivera is a Senior in Columbia College studying Computer Science. Along with website management, Aidan uses his collective experience in Python, C and Java to assist the team in data collection. In his spare time he enjoys studying different languages, among them French and Spanish, and crafting in various media.
