Tales from the Summer: International Labour Organization
Co-Chair João Souza e Silva on Working at the International Labour Organization:
Last summer, I interned in the Division of New Technologies Applied to Learning, at the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization, in Turin, Italy. I was involved with the development of a conference for training development institutions, whose objective is to explore the links between sustainable development and learning – the Learning Link.
The overarching theme of the conference is Sustainable Learning, which has its origins in the general definitions of sustainable development and its three intimately interconnected dimensions: social, economic and environmental. This concept applies the theory behind “Sustainable Development” to learning and training organizations.
In addition, together with other interns in the centre, I initiated the foundation of an association of interns, to respond to a number of pressing issues that are relevant to the internship programs in the centre. We based our methods in the Geneva Intern Association and agreed upon a list of objectives to improve the internship experience at the centre.
