Student Groups: Columbia International Arbitration Association (CIAA)

by Emily Park, J.D. Candidate 2022

Hello, and welcome to Columbia Law School! We are Columbia International Arbitration Association (CIAA), Columbia’s only student organization dedicated to international arbitration. We are fortunate to have significant LL.M. student participation every year, and we look forward to meeting you and bringing you into our community.

Each year, we plan and host Columbia Arbitration Day (CAD), the largest student-organized arbitration conference in the world and one of the premier international arbitration and CLE-accredited conferences in the country. CAD brings together scholars, practitioners, and students from across the globe for an annual discussion of the challenges and opportunities facing the international arbitration community. Helping with CAD planning and attending the conference is a great way to network with practitioners and stay up to date on the latest happenings in the international arbitration world.

In addition, we host lunch talks and panel events throughout the year to present cutting-edge issues in international arbitration to the Law School community, such as the intersection of arbitration, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and predictive analytics, and practical tips on pursuing a career in international arbitration. Through these educational events and social events such as happy hours, we connect members with other students interested in international arbitration at CLS.

Every year, we look to LL.M. students to fill various positions on our Executive Board and bring their experiences and perspectives to CIAA. Please reach out to Emily Park at [email protected] with any questions. We hope you will join us!
