Scientists for National and International Peace and Security (SNIPS) is a graduate student organization dedicated to sharing research in the sciences and engineering with an interdisciplinary audience. Through informal discussion events we aim to foster cross-disciplinary research and collaboration on issues related to global peace and security, with particular focus placed on devising solutions for environmental driven conflict.
SNIPS was formed in 2010 by a group of science and engineering graduate students at Columbia University who recognized the challenges to and potential for cross-disciplinary collaboration within and outside of the university. The organization was founded on the idea that by sharing student research regarding topics of mutual interest in an informal setting, we can not only promote interdisciplinary collaborations but also mutual respect between disciplines.
Our main goal is to connect students and organizations across and outside of Columbia through collaborative events, including our informal discussion series. Please reach out to us if you would like to suggest a discussion topic or to collaborate on an event.
