Live Coverage: David N. Dinkins Leadership & Public Policy Forum

dinkins forumToday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST, we’ll be posting content from the 18th Annual David N. Dinkins Leadership & Public Policy Forum. So bookmark this post, and check back later this morning for tweets, images, commentary and speech excerpts from the event.

Why should you tune in? Well, for the past 20 years, this annual forum has addressed many of the challenging issues including education, the environment, labor, tourism, immigration and fiscal crises that successful and urban ecosystems must contend with. It’s named for the 106th Mayor of the nation’s largest city and the first African American Mayor elected in New York City, the David N. Dinkins Leadership & Public Policy Forum provides a vehicle for analysis, focus and dialogue around the dynamic elements of urban policies, programs, and initiatives.

President Lee C. Bollinger Statement on the Earthquake in Nepal

Please know that our thoughts are with our Seeple, alumni, family and friends who were impacted by Nepal’s massive, 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Saturday. In the aftermath of this devastating quake, help to provide relief is still needed. While many Seeple can’t get on the next flight to Kathmandu and help (Jessica Alexander, MIA ’05, actually advises against it in this article for Slate.com), there are other ways to offer assistance. 

For anyone who would like to donate to the relief efforts, Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger has shared a list of organizations accepting donations. His statement on the Nepal quake is below.

Student Highlights from SIPA’s Global Leadership Awards Gala

Last week, members of the SIPA community gathered at the Waldorf Astoria for the SIPA Global Leadership Awards Gala.

The Global Leadership Awards Gala honors individuals that exemplify the values and qualities that SIPA strives to instill in its students. Those honored this year have made incredible contributions to the public good, and included Edward Skyler, Executive Vice President at CITI; Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro; and Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles and a SIPA alumnus, Class of ’95.
