You may recall a recent blog post asking for our incoming Fall 2015 students to introduce themselves on the Admissions Blog. Since then, I’ve received several submissions from your fellow Seeple. (Thank you to everyone who’s participated!) To kick off this weekly series, let’s start with Ashley Marissa Portillo, a California native who likes to practice yoga and climb the Inca ruins (not necessarily at the same time). She’s concentrating in Human Rights and Humanitarian Policy, and hopes to work for the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer after graduating from SIPA. Below, you’ll find her responses to the New Student Survey. Read More →
Our IT department is performing some upgrades this month, so this blog, our voicemail and our email accounts will be unavailable during the following periods:
5:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6
and
5:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20
While all services may not be unavailable completely, please refrain from sending us an email or leaving a voicemail during these periods, as we may not receive them. Our technology services will be fully restored immediately following these down periods.
The pictures are bigger. The colors are brighter. The layout is more responsive. It’s the Admissions Blog of your dreams!
Welcome to the new blog. I hope you’re as thrilled with our redesign as we all are. If you’ll recall the old blog, it was stagnantly old-school looking. Nobody liked it, and that’s understandable. So we changed it! (Drag the arrows in the image below to see the before and after makeover!)

As you take a look around at the new SIPA MIA/MPA Admissions Blog, I hope that it reminds you of a site you already enjoy. I decided to mimic the look of the SIPA website—similar fonts, a featured-content slider, and a user-friendly navigation menu.
At the top of the page, you’ll see our navigation menu. Under About This Blog, you’ll find our mission statement, and a list of contributors. We also link you back to the Application Page via Important Links and Apply Now. And if you’re interested in reading more about a particular subject, just send us an email via Submit An Idea. I’ll personally get the request, and will be sure to put your inquiry in our top-priority list.
On the right-hand side of most pages, you’ll notice Upcoming Deadlines, Recent Posts, and even our Instagram account (!), which will help keep you informed on important reminders and content related to the admissions process.
And if you ever forget our email address or physical address, just scroll to the bottom on any page to quickly reference our contact information.
Oh, and please make sure you subscribe to the new blog by entering your email address in the Subscribe bar on the right-hand side. (If you received this post in an email, then you don’t have to re-subscribe.) Since it’s technically a new blog, we’re using a new subscription service. Thus, to stay informed on upcoming events, student life, and the admissions process, don’t forget to subscribe today!
I look forward to bringing you some exciting content this summer. If you have any comments about the new blog, please feel free to Submit An Idea.
—Kaitlyn Wells, Assistant Director of Admissions, SIPA
We’ll be cheering on our graduating Seeple—and bawling like babies when no one’s looking—so the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid will close early on Thursday, May 21, 2015. If you have any questions or concerns, please stop by the office between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. EST this Thursday. We’ll resume our normal business hours on Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
And a BIG congratulations to our Program Assistants! They will be missed, but all of us here are excited to see what they’ll accomplish next. If you’d like to reminisce with us, take a look back at some of the posts our PAs wrote this past year.
"The most global public policy school, where an international community of students and faculty address world challenges."
